From the beginning Star Wars seems to have sparked the imagination in its fans. The idea of a place so far away and so old, with fantastic people and events, seemed alien, even when it mirrored our own existence. What keeps the fans coming back? what makes the enthusiast remain that little kid in front of the house with a flashlight making the “ZURM ZURM” noise of a light saber? What do you do you get your mind set for indulging in the grand fantasy of Star wars.
You Write Novels and Fan Fiction : the credits have rolled, the popcorn crunches under your feet as you leave the theater (or your couch) and you wonder what’s next? Or That ending needs work. Or like me you go, WHAT THE HOLY HECK ? That crap needs an immediate rewrite! the attachment to the stories so far beyond their initial release drives the fandom to create, and expand the universe by pen and verse. With titles like Another Hope (by Lori Jareo) , and the Paperback series Star Wars: Lost Tribe of the Sith we see the stories expanding and moving in so many different directions.

You make Movies, and Short films : Okay so we have all seen CHAD Vader and some of you are rolling your eyes and saying “That’s Not Star wars!” I ask you this, why not? Has the devotion to the genre become so narrow, that is must succumb to the source word of fan, that is Fanatic? Star Wars is big enough that it can be made fun of even out and out Ridiculed.

You engage in Cosplay : Okay so maybe we all don’t own a full body suit of Stormtrooper armor. Or maybe We all don’t have spouses that have a Twi’lek slave girl outfit and paint stashed away in the back of the closet, in locked black trunk, whose only key will never be found by adolescent hands itching in curiosity. Besides if we did, so What? We see them at Comic Book Conventions, At weddings, Dancing in the streets around Shinjuku and sometime we see them boldly going where no one has gone… Wait… yeah, What I mean is we choose to embody those images and humanize the stories by putting ourselves in them.
In the end ,you have deep feelings for the Genre and you express it in a way that makes a connection for you. That is the purpose of todays topic, it was not meant to point out the wonderfully odd and eccentric behavior of the fans, It was done to remind us that it’s okay to tie a black towel around your back and pretend you have asthma while talking to your friends on the phone, so long as there is nothing nefarious behind “WHY” you are doing it.
