A popular Topic on the STO forums is Havarha’s The Foundry: 6 Months to Live, And Why You Should Care. We covered this topic befor in an early report but new was reported there yesterday that rendered many Foundry Authors saying WOOT!
Its no surprise at all that the Foundry had little or no attentions in this hole F2P phase that will end with F2P Players storming the final frontier on January 17th, 2012. Abandonment and confusion has been creeping its cold hands in the the foundry community since season 4′s major down time and lack of promised content like C-store items and raw data export and import tools.
Now hot of the heels of Foundry Icon Kirkfat last statement that he posted saying that he was leaving the game for many and above mentioned reasons, plus the vast out pore from Authors, Starbase UGC members and the cast of Podcast UGC, a new light flickers on the horizon. Cryptic Dev Rehpic posted in this topic in responce to Captain Revo asking for a way to earn or buy Foundry slots.
Rehpic had this to say:
“We are doing just that. We have added the ability to buy more UGC project slots for Dilithium. The prices are 2 slots for 7000 Dilithium or 4 slots for 10000 Dilithium. You can buy up to 40 additional UGC project slots. Gold players start with 8 slots, just like existing subscribers, and silver players start with no slots.
The UI is in the build that is currently on Tribble, but it is hooked up wrong and will take your Dilithium without providing any new slost, so don’t use it to buy any slots yet. I believe the next build going to Tribble should have that fixed.”
What this means is that not only do you have the ability to buy more slots, but if an author does not want to keep a sub, they can still buy slots and tell there stores. This also meant that some of the Foundry fears that have been passed around are false. The major rumor was that Cryptic would drop the foundry or not work or add anything to it. Jest from this news alone, one could speculate that once F2P is out of the way and production starts up, that they add more to the Foundry to justify people paying for slots.
