A Fond Farewell: STO’s Adam CapnLogan Williams moves on…
Trailing 24 hours of the heels of an EPIC 3 hour Tribble’s in Ecstasy Ship Design Special (coming soon)where CapnLogan, Adam Ihle and Sean Tourangeau along with the Ship Busters crew from TIE and Risa from one of our partner stations TrekRadio.net came some devastating news from Twitter.
Adam Williams, loved by all in the STO community as the Lead Ship Designer will be leaving…
Adam Williams (CapnLogan) Twitter: “I have bad news and good news. Bad news is im leaving STO and CRYPTIC in two weeks. Good news is I’m going to Bungie to work on their new title. Ian Richards will be replacing me permanently. Thanks for the wishes all. Ian is highly skilled. Trained in ships by yours truly. I’ll surely keep posting but probably no “leaks”
“
In the Beginning…
In October of 2009, just months before Star Trek Online was released in early February, Williams made the jump from Associate 3D Artist on Sony Computer Entertainment’s projects to Staff Environment Artist and Ship/Vehicle Artist for Cryptic Studios, the creators of famed City of Heroes/ Villeins and popular Free to Play Champions Online.
Due to the pure love of Star Ships from the community in STO, Williams quickly grew to be a DEV favorite in who’s popularity rivals that of Executive Producer Dan Stahl (dstahl), Lead Designer Al Rivera (CaptainGeko) and Content Designer Dan Griffis (Gozer).

Leaving A Legacy…
In the years spent in STO, CapnLogan continually raised the bar with every ship made. A strong bond was made remodeling old ship with the help of the community in the STO Forums to fully fit the Star Trek IP. Later for Star Trek Online’s movement to their new Free to Play model he pushed us into the new age by Designing and Developing many new ship classes, both on the FED and KDF for our enjoyment.
During this time a new mile stone was hit with the 2010Design the Next Enterprise Contest. Winning that momentous occasion, a new concept design was born out of the mind of Adam Ihle. In taking this new concept, with the help of UI and Concept Artist Thomas Marrone (ThomasTheCrypticCat) and the staff of Cryptic’s STO team, CapnLogan crafted, in my opinion, what is the most beautiful ship in Star Trek Online, the Odyssey Class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-F.
If this was not a daunting task in itself, cementing his name in history as one of the four people who designed the new Enterprise, he quickly spearheaded to the delight of Klingon Players, the new KDF Bortas Class Flag Ship Cruiser.

Second Star To The Right…

As Adam Williams (CapnLogan) star begins to fade over the next two weeks, a new light starts to shine. Ian Richards, from under the guiding wings of CapnLogan will rise to be the new Lead Ship Designer of STO. Nothing is really know of him yet at this time other that he built the Type 10 Chaffee Shuttle in the latise DS9 Bundle Pack. Several times during the soon to be released Tribble’s in Ecstasy Ship Design Special, CapnLogan commented on the Epic Mad Skills Ian Richards has and added the fact that other members of the STO DEV team including Nick Duguid (Tumberboy) and Maria LeMat (ZeroniusRex) speak highly of him. We are sure in for a treat soon.
Nick Duguid (Tumberboy) STO Forums: Don’t worry, Ian is going to do a bang up job. Adam’s shown him well, and he’s already built the Chaffee, and has some other sexiness coming your way. Ian is not new to the team. He’s been on STO longer than I have. He was on environments before, and transitioned to helping with ships around when I started in January. So he’s been training/working with Logan since then.
Maria LeMat (ZeroniusRex) Twitter:
@CapnLogan I already miss you. But Ian’s pretty dope, and so is HALO!
To Boldly Go…
As Adam Williams finishes up and says his goodbyes to STO’s DEVs and the community, many if not all of his friends and fans will continue to watch as he joins his new team at Bungie to hopefully work on the highly secretive and anticipated project Destiny with publisher Activision Blizzard. While not much has been told, in a Bungie Video Documentary called “O Brave New World” the team promising that the new universe created will be a game changer to meet or surpass Halo.
Bungie, now a fully Independent Company better know for the Epic universe of Halo will complete a transition process for Halo data on March 31st, 2012 of all live Halo data and form there on out all future Halo support, will be provided by Microsoft and 343 Industries via Halo Waypoint at http://halo.xbox.com
